Oregon Ducks' 2024 schedule with game-by-game score predictions

As we transition to a new season, the landscape is getting set to change for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks.

No longer will the program have the comfort of competing in the Pac-12 Conference against familiar foes Stanford, Washington State and California. Instead, the Ducks prepare to join the Big Ten and go up against Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin.

More than just the schedule change. Oregon has new opportunities at the end of the upcoming season created by the new, expanded College Football Playoff, in which 12 teams will compete to win the national championship.

With those goals on the horizon, Lanning will work to mold his roster into a championship contender, replacing Bo Nix, Troy Franklin, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Bucky Irving, Brandon Dorlus and many other pivotal players from last year’s team.

So how successful will they be? According to numerous preseason projections and polls, the Ducks are among the best teams in the nation and they have some great odds to win their first national championship. While many rankings have them somewhere in the top five or top 10, we wanted to take a deeper dive to see if we can figure out which games will be the most pivotal.

We’ve done the strength of schedule rankings in the Big Ten and projected where every team would land when bowl season came around. Now we want to get specific and offer game-by-game score predictions for the Ducks. Let’s break down the entire slate for the Ducks and try to predict what we might see.

Week 1 vs. Idaho Vandals

Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

What’s Going to Happen: There’s a lot less stress involved when you play someone like Idaho in Week 1 compared to playing Georgia. While the Vandals may be competitive on the Football Championship level, there’s zero percent chance this is a close game for the Ducks.

Score Prediction: Oregon 72, Idaho 6

Oregon Record: 1-0

Week 2 vs. Boise State Broncos

What’s Going to Happen: Oregon fans have a bad history when it comes to Boise State. The Ducks have never beaten the Broncos. This is the year that changes. Boise State has a new head coach and a new quarterback. The Ducks should take care of business.

Score Prediction: Oregon 59, Boise State 10

Oregon Record: 2-0

Week 3 at Oregon State Beavers

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

What’s Going to Happen: This has been a competitive game the past couple of years. Oregon State pulled the upset in 2022 and at least had some confidence going into 2023. I don’t think we’ll be able to say that about the 2024 matchup. The Beavers have been gutted, losing their coach and many of their best players this offseason once the school was left behind by everyone else in the conference. The Ducks will take this game easily, and likely rub a bit of dirt in the wound on their way out.

Score Prediction: Oregon 66, Oregon State 13

Oregon Record: 3-0

Week 5 at UCLA Bruins

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

What’s Going to Happen: Will it be Dante Moore against his former team? Likely not, in the first half at least. … While UCLA goes through a bit of a rebuild after Chip Kelly skipped town to become the offensive coordinator at Ohio State, it could be in for a couple of rough seasons under DeShaun Foster. The Ducks should have little trouble with what will technically be their first Big Ten game.

Score Prediction: Oregon 42, UCLA 6

Oregon Record: 4-0

Week 6 vs. Michigan State Spartans

Steve Dykes/Getty Images

What’s Going to Happen: It will be interesting to see how quickly former Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith can turn the program around at Michigan State, but I don’t think the Spartans will be good enough to come into Eugene and give the Ducks a close game. This should be a relatively easy win for Oregon, in my opinion.

Score Prediction: Oregon 38, Michigan State 17

Oregon Record: 5-0

Week 7 vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

Oregon Ducks defensive tackle Brandon Dorlus (3) pressures Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud (7) during the fourth quarter of the NCAA football game at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021. The Ducks won 35-28

What’s Going to Happen: Talk about game of the year. … The two top teams in the Big Ten Conference, and potentially two of the very best teams in the nation, meet for a conference game in Eugene. It seriously would not shock me if either team won this game. Both have legitimate national championship aspirations this year, and both will likely end up in the College Football Playoff regardless of the outcome of this game. Ultimately, though, I have to give the slightest of edges to the Ohio State Buckeyes, because they’ve been on this stage many times before, and Ryan Day has the experience edge in this department. It hurts me to do it, but in a game of inches, I think that matters.

Score Prediction: Ohio State 26, Oregon 24

Oregon Record: 5-1

Week 8 at Purdue Boilermakers

Steve Dykes-USA TODAY Sports

What’s Going to Happen: This is a nice game to get the week after playing Ohio State. Oregon should have very little trouble against a Purdue team that projects to be one of the worst in the conference. I see a blowout coming, even on the road.

Score Prediction: Oregon 48, Purdue 3

Oregon Record: 6-1

Week 9 vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

Dylan Widger-USA TODAY Sports

What’s Going to Happen: If Purdue was a great dessert for the Ohio State game, then Illinois is a nice appetizer for the next team on Oregon’s schedule. The Fighting Illini could be improved this year, but they will not be good enough to take down the Ducks in Eugene.

Score Prediction: Oregon 52, Illinois 10

Oregon Record: 7-1

Week 10 at Michigan Wolverines

Gregory Shamus/Getty Images

What’s Going to Happen: Going into The Big House and taking on the defending national champions seems like a daunting task. This might be the year that you want to do it, though. Michigan is losing a huge chunk of its roster to the NFL, including quarterback J.J. McCarthy, running back Blake Corum and wide receiver Roman Wilson. The program also lost head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL. While Sherrone Moore has proven to be a solid head coach in his time as an interim, I don’t think Michigan has what it takes to beat the 2024 version of the Ducks, even in Ann Arbor.

Score Prediction: Oregon 31, Michigan 23

Oregon Record: 8-1

Week 11 vs. Maryland Terrapins

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

What’s Going to Happen: This will be the first time Oregon and Maryland have played. While it will likely be a visually entertaining matchup as far as uniforms go, I’m not sure it will be the most competitive game. Maryland is one of the middling teams in the conference, so Oregon should be able to handle it pretty well at home.

Score Prediction: Oregon 49, Maryland 16

Oregon Record: 9-1

Week 12 at Wisconsin Badgers

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

What’s Going to Happen: This is a game I think is going to be closer than a lot of people are anticipating. Luke Fickell has Wisconsin heading in the right direction, and if former Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke can find some success, the Badgers might be a sleeper in the Big Ten. I still think the Ducks win this game, even in Madison, but it likely will not be a blowout.

Score Prediction: Oregon 27, Wisconsin 21

Oregon Record: 10-1

Week 14 vs. Washington Huskies

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

What’s Going to Happen: Can Dan Lanning get his first win over Washington? As was the case with Michigan, this is the year that you want to do it. The Huskies’ roster has been depleted through the NFL draft and transfer portal. Head coach Kalen DeBoer left Seattle to take over for Nick Saban at Alabama. That means Washington is nowhere near the team it was a year ago, when it lost in the national championship game. This should be an Oregon win and a blowout if it feels like taking out some aggression that’s built up over the past couple of years.

Score Prediction: Oregon 38, Washington 17

Oregon Record: 11-1
